School and guest house construction continues at full speed – even through the current Tanzanian “rainy season”. At full speed, we spend nearly $100,000 in a year on construction materials and labor. The biggest expense items currently are cement, blocks, rebar, timber, and infrastructure work on water supply and sanitary facilities.
You may recognize “Jenga” as the name of a popular tower building game and in fact, “Jenga” is the Swahili word for “build”.
By joining the Jenga Club, you sponsor a day’s (or week’s!) construction on the project. Your name will be displayed on the official project calendars both here and in Mailisita. You’ll also be informed of what construction activities happened on your day – the day you made happen. In addition, the parishioners in Mailisita, Tanzania will offer prayers for both the donors and those they are honoring.
So how much does a day cost? $333. This is our average daily price for all construction labor and materials. But what if I wanted my own week? Well, okay, but that will require $2,000 – they work 6 days / week! Or a month for $8,000!
Consider funding a special day for someone’s birthday, anniversary, wedding day, etc. Or fund a week or even a month for a special occasion or to honor or in memory of friends or family.
