The purpose of the Mailisita Foundation is to enable individuals to make a difference in the lives, hopes, and realities of these children's
futures through improving their educational opportunities.

It is easy to be fooled by their smiles and happy dispositions into thinking that all is well. But many of these children are living under very difficult circumstances.

The successful development of the Mailisita Education Center as a financially selfsustaining campus to serve the health and educational needs of the growing orphan population in rural
Tanzania will improve the lives of many and serve as an example of how people a world apart can work together to bring about positive change.

Direct Donation

Construction continues year round at the site.  Although we have the first two classrooms ready to go, we really need to get the money-generating Guesthouse done ASAP.  Without the Guesthouse, the school and the children cannot become self-sustaining and will require ongoing donations to cover expenses.  Over forty people from northern Illinois have made the trek to Tanzania over the past three years to work on building the school.  We'd love for more to make the trip!  If traveling to Africa is a bit over the top, any help you can offer will be used to buy the building materials we need to complete the school and Guesthouse.

The Mailisita Foundation is an IRS designated 501(c)(3) charity.  As such, all contributions are eligible for exemption from US federal taxes.

Checks can be sent to:

Mailisita Foundation

Green Oaks, IL  60048

100% of all money received has gone, and will continue to go directly to the purchasing of building materials, food, and labor for the construction of the Mailisita Education Center.  All administrative costs have been covered by individual donations designated for such purposes.

For the fifth year running, we hope to have a group journey to Africa to work on the project.  If planning to join us in 2011, the key week to be in Tanzania is sometime in July (still planning!).  That will be the week we will plan to do school construction or educational activities with the children.

Past years' volunteers have enjoyed pre or post trips to safari locations such as the Ngorongoro crater or the Serengeti, climbing Kilimanjaro, or exploring the island of Zanzibar.   Susanne Taylor (847.247.4346) is a great resource for helping with your trip planning.

Take a look at the journals from past trips here.
