12/2/2009 Head mistress hired: Mrs. Lucy Shayo who has been headmistress at a nearby primary school for the past 10 years was hired. Read more about the hiring and other updates here.

11/16/2009 Benefit Update: We are very pleased that in such a difficult financial year for so many we were able to raise over $15,000 for the foundation. Thank you to everyone who participated!

10/26/2009 Upcoming Benefit: Where and when: Saturday, November 7, 2009 at Mickey Finn's Amber Room in Libertyville, Illinois. The event begins at 6 pm and goes until 10:00 pm. Afterwards, feel free to stay and listen to Mickey Finn's evening band. The cost is $50 per person. Activities will include dinner, a silent auction, and a live aution featuring 3 nights at Disney World's Boardwalk Villa for Casimir Pulaski weekend. October 16, 2008: A big ASANTE (thanks) to Oak Grove 8th Graders in Green Oaks who raised $564.11 in a bake sale for the project.   They've decided to sponsor a child (joining the Watoto Club) and have the remaining $264.11 used toward buying food for the children.  They also collected easy-reader books and school supplies too!

Mailisita Foundation is an IRS designated 501(c)(3) chairity.

School enrollment: 280 kids.

It costs 40 cents a day to feed each student.

The Mailisita Foundation was created to develop a financially self-sustaining Education Center to serve the needs of a growing orphan population in rural Tanzania.

Mailisita is a village in Tanzania six miles outside of the town of Moshi. "Mailisita" is Swahili for "mile six". Mailisita is along the main road connecting Arusha, Moshi, and the Kilimanjaro International Airport.

Fr. Kawishe (right) is the Mailisita parish priest within the Catholic Diocese of Moshi, Tanzania. In addition to his many other responsibilities, Fr. Kawishe has been running a pre-school at the parish center serving about 100 children -- many of whom are orphaned or from familieis otherwise unable to pay for their children's education.

Building to serve the educational needs of a growing population of orphans and impoverished in rural Tanzania.

The proposed education center, shown left in its early building stages, will help children learn English. Learning English is needed to have a chance to compete for scarce secondary school openings. Learn more...
